Opposition All People’s Congress (APC) President Nason Msoni says time is now ripe for Zambia to move away from contention to political consensus on the enactment of the new constitution.

Mr Msoni says his party is encouraging the Patriotic Front (PF) government from now on to start engaging political stakeholders before making any announcement on the way forward with respect to the new constitution.

Mr. Msoni has told Qfm News in an interview that his party has come to the realization that each time a good idea from government has been short down, it has been as a result of not engaging political stakeholders before making such critical decisions of national interest.

He says the ruling PF should therefore be wary at this stage that there is a danger that the proposal it has put across to hold the constitution referendum alongside the 2016 general elections may only turn out to be a referendum against itself for the period it has been in government.

The APC president has cautioned that the ruling PF should in fact start thinking of its proposal as a double edged sword that needs to be handled delicately.

Mr Msoni says this means building consensus with other political stakeholders before implementing the proposal.
