Rehab of GBV fast track courts pleases govt

Government has expressed happiness with the rehabilitation of the Gender Based Violence (GBV) fast track courtrooms.

Speaking when she toured the two courtrooms at the Lusaka Magistrates court complex today Gender and Child Development Permanent Secretary Daisy Ng’ambi told journalists that she is impressed with the works so far by the contracted engineers.

Mrs Ng’ambi explains that government wants to ensure there is order and in handling of the alarming numbers of GBV cases.

She says government plans to launch the GBV fast track courts by June this year.

And Chief Resident Magistrate Aridah Chuulu says the number of Gender based Violence cases handled by the magistrates courts every day are worrying and require a new approach.

Magistrate Chuulu adds that the introduction of the GBV fast track court has therefore come at the right time.

She says three magistrates to be responsible for the GBV fast track courts have already been identified.
