Uphold electoral code – APNAC advises aspiring MPs

African Parliamentarians Network against Corruption (APNAC) has advised aspiring parliamentary candidates to uphold the electoral code of conduct in order avoid continued incidences of nullification of election results.

APNAC Chairperson Cornelius Mweetwa says parliamentary candidates must realize that corrupt practices do not pay but are instead a huge cost not only to the individuals aspiring but also to the tax payers who bear the cost for by-elections.

Mr Mweetwa says it is sad that despite the numerous nullification of parliamentary seats some aspiring candidates have continued to engage in acts of vote buying.

He says the vice of vote buying should stop in order to allow people vote for the candidates they believe will move their constituencies forward.

He has further advised the electorates in areas which will be holding by elections not to allow themselves to be influenced or corrupted to vote for a particular person but instead vote for the candidate of their choice.

Mr Mweetwa was reacting to reports that Michael Katambo the Patriotic Front parliamentary candidate for Masaiti has reclaimed items he had given to another person because the beneficiary refused to join the ruling party.
