The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has urged government not to hesitate to deport foreign investors exploiting local workers.

ZCTU Secretary General Cosmas Mukuka has told QFM News that the union is not impressed with certain investors who are not following the country’s labour laws.

Mr. Mukuka points out that the union has since engaged government through the Ministries of Labour and Home Affairs to consider deporting Intercontinental Hotel Assistant General Manager Michael Naber for abusing workers’ rights and threatening them with dismissals.

He says since the union disclosed that Mr. Naber has been allegedly abusing workers at Intercontinental, it has engaged government to investigate the allegations against the Assistant General Manager.

Mr Mukuka adds that government should be seen to be protecting workers’ rights as opposed to protecting foreigners in the name of creating a conducive working environment for investors.

He says some investors are arrogant and do not want to follow the country’s labour laws.
