Plans to remove Chama as PF SG worries YALI

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is concerned that some of PF members are calling for the removal of the Secretary General of the Party Davies Chama saying they should exercise some patience.

Lusaka District PF district women’s chairlady Margret Mumba has disclosed that there is a scheme to hound out Mr. Chama being championed by Rainbow Party sympathizers who are targeting to weaken party and Republican President Edgar Lungu.

YALI Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza in a statement to QFM News, says attempts to have Mr. Chama removed as Secretary General, is the result of his efforts to enforce discipline among the rank and file of the PF membership where discipline is seriously lacking.

Mr. Mwanza states that the political stability of the country begins with having stable political parties and, especially, the stability of the party in power.

He says his organization is concerned that if these machinations to hound out people who are seen to be enforcing discipline among undisciplined members of the party continues, Zambia’s progress towards building a true democracy will continue to be at risk.

He notes that some members of the PF are now becoming uncomfortable with Mr. Chama because of recent developments in the party.

Mr. Mwanza has counseled PF members to give time to their Secretary General to put their house in order, a necessary exercise given the acrimony and divisions leading up to the election of President Lungu as Party President at Mulungushi.

The YALI Governance Advisor believes that the PF leadership as a whole, needs to come together and examine the party’s position post-election, and for the top leadership to give full recognition to those appointed to positions of leadership in both the PF and the government.

He has since advised President Lungu to act swiftly and not allow the emergence of factions which he believes might paint a bad picture about the party.
