Pensulo Power Line Project to be commissioned in September

PensuloZESCO says the $153 million worth 330kv Pensulo power transmission line project from Serenje to Kasama is expected to be commissioned in September this year.

ZESCO Spokesperson Henry Kapata says the project has been funded by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the Zambian government and ZESCO limited.

Mr. Kapata states that once completed, electricity power supply in Northern, Muchinga and Luapula provinces will greatly improve.

He explains that the existing 66kv power transmission supplying power to the three provinces cannot meet the capacity because it was constructed a decade ago when demand was low.

And Mr. Kapata says the Pensulo power transmission line project will create an opportunity for Zambia to link the Southern African Development Community (SADC) power pool with the East African power pool.

Mr. Kapata adds that the regional power pools interconnections will increase international electricity trading through imports and exports and further enhance the stability of the regional power networks.
