Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believes that his side and rivals Real Madrid both have a “50 percent chance” of winning El Clasico on Sunday at the Nou Camp.

While El Clasico is always considered to be an important match, the stakes are much higher this time around since Barcelona only hold a one point lead over Madrid in the La Liga standings.

In addition, Madrid have the chance to win their third consecutive Clasico, a feat they have not accomplished since 1978.

“The form book goes out of the window for the Clasico,” Pique told BBC Sport. “Each side has a 50 percent chance of winning. They have Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, two players that are very powerful, very fast, very dangerous in one-on-ones and who score goals.

“This is one of the most special games of the year, because of the rivalry between us and because we’re usually playing for titles against them. They’re another great team, with great players and that makes it so much more special.

“You feel stronger and more confident on the back of a run like the one we’ve been having.

“Winning the Clasico would be a very important step forward. There are 10 games left and it’s very tight between us.”
