The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has observed that allegations of corruption by some senior PF government officials is just a tip on the iceberg.

UPND Deputy Spokesperson Edwin Lifwekelo has told QFM News in a statement that his party has welcomed the arresting of Mwansabombwe PF Member of Parliament Rodgers Mwewa and his wife Anna Mwitwa for abuse of authority.

Mr. Lifwekelo notes that allegations of misappropriation and misapplication of public resources meant for community purpose is undermining service delivery to the public and should worry all well meaning Zambians.

Mr. Lifwekelo says there is need for government to act on rampant misapplication and misappropriation of public funds cited in the auditors general report.

He says this is important if government is to instill confidence in the governance system.

He furthermore notes that corruption is a cancer that must be fought whenever it raises its ugly head.

He says the PF government need to do much more in addressing this cancer by ensuring that culprits are brought to book.

And the UPND has also observed the need to consider making the first lady’s office institutional.

Mr. Lifwekelo says the current republican constitution does not define the role of the first lady besides the executive.

He states that currently First ladies do not have any statutory functions and that funding for the office of the first lady is guess work a situation that gives room for the abuse of the public resources that are likely to be used for political campaigns.
