Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition (CSO–SUN) has expressed concern with the manner some food products being sold on the Zambian market are labeled without showing clear standards of nutrients.
CSO-SUN Alliance National Coordinator William Chilufya has told Qfm news in an interview that the information reaching his organisation is worrying and has the potential to take most children into malnutrition status.
Mr. Chilufya says there is need for government to seriously pay attention to some food manufactures who are no abiding by law to help consumers choose the right food stuff.
Mr. Chilufya explains that his organization also has information suggesting that some mothers are substituting breast milk for their babies with products such as maheu.
He has advised that mothers should breastfeed their babies 100 percent and not endanger their lives by resorting to other means of feeding them.
Mr Chilufya has since called on all stakeholders to step up efforts in sensitizing the nation about the essential foods which have good nutrients.
