The UPND says it is not threatened by the move by Father Frank Bwalya to join the ruling PF.

UPND vice president for politics Canisius Banda says this is because his party is on the side of the people and will soon form government.

Dr. Banda has told Qfm News by telephone that the UPND thinks Father Bwalya is still trying to discover himself as a politician and should be allowed to evolve.

He says his party also thinks that Father Bwalya has a democratic right to join any political party of his choice.

And political activist Dante Saunders says the move by Fr Bwalya to join the ruling party was expect but that it does not seem to have any political significance.

Mr. Saunders says this is because there has not been what he has term as the clicking of panic buttons by the opposition political parties.

He however says it is Father Bwalya’s democratic right to join a political party of his choice.

But political scientist Neo Simutanyi says it is only right that Father Bwalya has joined the ruling party especially that he has a track record of supporting the party from as far back as 2011.

Dr. Simutanyi has observed that by joining the ruling party, Father Bwalya has in fact broken the contradiction he was making to support a party in power when he should have been providing checks and balance as an opposition leader.

He adds that the move Fr Bwalya and his members to join the PF has demonstrate the options available to political parties that know they cannot form government have of joining political parties capable of forming government.
