Govt to extend social cash tranfer to all districts by 2016

Government says it intends to scale up the social cash transfer to all districts in the country by 2016.

Community Development, Mother and Child Health Minister Emerine Kabanshi has told parliament in a ministerial statement today that the total number of districts currently implementing the social cash transfer stands at 50 with 145,698 benefiKabanshi Eciary households compromising 56,527 male and 89,171 female headed households.

Ms Kabanshi says government has targeted to increase the number of beneficiary households under the social cash transfer to 189,000 before the end of this year.

She says the K70.00 given to beneficiary households under the social cash transfer has made a big difference in the lives of the beneficiaries.

Ms Kabanshi says K180 million has been allocated towards the social cash transfer in 2015 of which K150 million is government contribution with K30 million being contribution from cooperating partners.

She adds that government has procured 46 motor vehicles which has been distributed to the districts were the social cash transfer is being implemented.
