Kampamba joins Zambia U23 camp

SateZambia’s countdown to their 2015 All-Africa Games qualifier against Nigeria has received a boost with the arrival of Egyptian-based striker Ronald Kampamba.

The 21-year-old striker from Wadi Degla arrived in Zambia on Monday from his Cairo base and joined the team at training on Tuesday in Lusaka.

Coach Fighton Simukonda said it was a big relief to have one of his three high profile call-ups available for the qualifiers.

Simukonda however is still not sure whether Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder Mukuka Mulenga will travel with the team to Abuja.

“Kampamba arrival has boosted the morale in camp,” Simukonda said.

“It is unfortunate that Mukuka is not here. We are yet to hear from him otherwise if we don’t hear from him by the end of the day then he is out of the team.”

Simukonda also disclosed that Red Arrows winger Bruce Musakanya will miss the final round, first leg match due to a hamstring injury.

Kampamba, Mukuka and Musakanya were all members of the senior Zambia team at the 2015 Africa Cup in Equatorial Guinea.

Nigeria will host Zambia on March 21 in Abuja while the return leg is scheduled for April 11.

Winner over both legs will qualify to the All-Africa Games to be hosted by Congo-Brazzaville from September 4-19.
