Financial analyst Mambo Hamaundu has urged the Bank of Zambia to intensify financial literacy campaigns in rural areas and compounds where people have little or no understanding of financial matters.

The central bank has launched the financial literacy week aimed at creating awareness among members of the public under the theme “a better life through saving, every ngwee counts” which will run from the 13th to 30th March, 2015.

Mr. Hamaundu says it is important that the Bank of Zambia does not only concentrate on urban areas but reach out to people in rural areas so that they can have improved knowledge, understanding, skills, motivation and confidence to help them secure positive financial outcomes for themselves and their families.

He adds that it is important that the Bank of Zambia comes up with as many programmes as possible other than just trainings to educate the women and youth in the country on financial matters.

Mr. Hamaundu further states that he is hopeful that the financial literacy week will yield fruits such as helping the people of Zambia know how to utilize finances.
