Acting President assures youths of continued empowerment

SimbyakulaActing Republican President Ngosa Simbyakula says the increment in Youth Empowerment Fund from K20 million in 2014 to K29 million this year is a demonstration that the PF government is committed to addressing challenges affecting youths.

Speaking when he officiated at Youth Day Celebrations in Lusaka this afternoon, Dr. Simbyakula says the PF government will also carry on the program left by late President Michael Sata to establish a public university in each of the ten provinces in the country.

Dr. Simbyakula says this is an important day because the country celebrates the contributions made by youths for Zambia to attain political freedom.

Dr. Simbyakula, who is also Justice Minister, says Zambia cannot ignore challenges facing youths in the country such as unemployment, health, poverty among other issues which he believes have shaken norms of society.

He says government is alive to address the challenges facing the young people in the country by implementing policies that are favorable to the youths.

Dr. Simbyakula says government will continue providing opportunities that will see young people engaged in governance issues in the country.

Speaking at the same event, Sports and Youth Minister Vincent Mwale strongly advised youths throughout the country to reject tribalism and violence.

Mr. Mwale says this is the time for young people to reflect on their contribution to the country’s economic development.

He says youths should take center stage and contribute immensely to the social and economical development of the nation.

Some of the notable people who were present at the youth day celebrations include: First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda, Chief Justice Ireen Mambilima, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mukondo Lungu, Lusaka Mayor and other senior government officials.

And in Mbala District in Northern Province, Mbala District Commissioner, Best Kabulembe has implored the youths in the district to be focused and desist from divisive tendencies in order to grow the economy and continue building on peace, unity and prosperity of the country.

He said this when he officiated at this year’s Youth day celebrations at Mbala secondary school under the theme, “The Youth: Building a Stable and Sustainable Future.”

Mr. Kabulembe has urged the youths as they celebrate their day to reposition themselves and reflect on their obligations, responsibilities and positive contributions towards national development.
