Police in Kasama nabs three for missing baby ‘body parts’

Police in Kasama have arrested three people in connection with the missing human body parts of a two-year-three month’s old baby who died on 10th February and was buried on 11th February 2015.

The incident happened after 32 year old witch finder Justwell Mazimba of Mpulungu was seen by members of the public with two legs, a head and two hands whilst divining at Chinakila village in Mpulungu.

In a statement to Qfm News, Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga Chanda has disclosed that investigations were instituted in the matter which led to the apprehension of Boniface Silupwa aged 52 and Kennedy Mwande 32 both of Mpulungu who are believed to have helped the witch finder to exhume the body and removed the parts.

Ms. Chanda says an exhumation which was conducted on 10th March confirmed the missing body parts.

She says it was upon hearing that the Police had apprehended the helpers that the witch finder went into hiding and was only apprehended on 10th March in Mpika on his way to Lusaka after a tip off from members of the public.

Ms. Chanda notes that the three have since been charged with trespass on burial places and will appear in court soon while Investigations into the matter are still on-going.

Meanwhile Police in Lusaka have apprehended two people who were found in possession of six pieces of Ivory tusks and 20 rounds of ammunition.

The Police spokesperson states that Guga Phinias and Rapheal Sibupawa aged 31 and 35 respectively were apprehended from one of the hotels in Lusaka whilst driving a Grey Toyata land cruiser Reg. ALK 1313 around 19:00 hours.

She says the two are in police custody and will be handed over to ZAWA.
