Expulsion of MPs worries YALI

IsaacThe Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is concerned that the opposition UPND is finding it easy to induce by-elections at an hour like this by expelling their three MPs who have accepted Ministerial position in the PF administration.

YALI Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza has told QFM News in an interview that the UPND is one of the political parties that have been against the by elections which they tamed as wastage of taxpayers money.

Mr. Mwanza wonders why the Party could not hold from expelling the three MPs till the adoption process for MPs that will contest the elections of 2016 to deal with them if the re-apply to contest their seats on UPND ticket.

In the same vein, Mr. Mwanza feels the PF should have withheld the temptation to expel it’s Members who campaigned for the opposition UPND as the timeframe to the next election is so short.

Mr. Mwanza feels that the leadership of the PF should have equally used the adoption process to deal with Members of Parliament as that would have helped to save the much needed taxpayers money.

He has appealed to both the UPND and PF to support constitutional amendments in Parliament that should be able to address such issues in the Supreme law that allows for by elections.

Mr. Mwanza has also appealed to Government and the Minister of Justice to quickly guide the nation on the direction the constitution reform process is likely to take and speed up processes for amending the Constitution while preparing for the National referendum.
