Reflect on youth empowerment- YALI asks govt

Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) has called on government to do a sober reflection on how much has been done to empower youths in the country ahead of the Youth Day commemoration next week.

YALI Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza has told QFM that it is worrying note that the only thing youths have been empowered with is political violence.

Mr. Mwanza says President Edgar Lungu in his address to the young people on Youth Day, should state categorically government plans to end political violence so that youths can be used for better things.

Mr. Mwanza states that the situation of youth unemployment has not changed in Zambia, a situation he has described as retrogressive.

He says all programs aimed at empowering youths in the country are merely lip service.

Mr. Mwanza notes that there is no greater commitment coming from government in terms of youth empowerment.
