406 KM of roads worked on under Link Zambia-8000

A total of 2,616 kilometers of road network had been procured under the Link Zambia-8000 road project as of December 31st 2014.

Transport, Works, Supply and Communication Minister, Yamfwa Mukanga has told Parliament in a ministerial statement that out of the 2,616 kilometers, 406 kilometers had been surfaced and opened to traffic.

Mr. Mukanga has further told the house that other road works under the Link Zambia 8000 project are at different levels of completion.Mukanga.Y

He says government is on course in implementing the link Zambia 8000 road project.

Mr Mukanga adds that since inception, the Link Zambia 8000 road project has created over 18,000 jobs in the construction industry.

And Mr. Mukanga has told Parliament that a total of 279 million kwacha was collected from heavy goods vehicles in toll revenues against a target of 250 million kwacha for the period January 2014 to December 2014.

He says this means that the Road Development Agency (RDA) collected 47 million kwacha above the target set for 2014.

Mr. Mukanga notes that in view of the construction of the toll plazas which is underway to enable the commencement of inland collection of tolls from all vehicle types in the second quarter of 2015, it is projected that a total of 350 million kwacha in toll revenues will be collected.
