ZABS spreads its market surveillance program to Livingstone

The Zambia Bureau of Bureau of Standards (ZABS) has spread its market surveillance and inspections programs to Livingstone town center shops in a bid to monitor the quality and check for compliance levels on regulated products on the market in the tourist capital.

ZABS Head of Marketing and Public Relations Hazel Zulu SAYS MARKET surveillance was conducted from different shops between 16th and 18th February 2015 and during which the ZABS inspectors took time to sensitize the shop owners about ZABS and its activities and the importance of compliance to the requirements of the standards.

Mrs Zulu says during the market surveillance paint samples and electrical cables were collected which have been sent to the ZABS laboratory in Lusaka for analysis.

She says main focus for this exercise was to sensitize shop owners about the need to adhere to the standards Act Cap 416 of the laws of Zambia by ensuring product safety and public health through the provision of products that meet the required Zambian standards.

Mrs Zulu names some of the shops visited as, Shah Hardware, Millennium Discount, Livingstone electronics, Town Center Market, Burkhans, and Trade Masters.

Other shops include, Shoprite, Stop Shop and Spar among others.
