Renaming Revenue appeals tribunal not enough – Action Aid Zambia

Action Aid Zambia says the move by Cabinet to rename the Revenue Appeals Tribunal as the Tax Tribunal is not enough as long as it is not strengthened.

Action Aid Zambia country Director Pamela Chisanga says his organisation will have to look at the contents of the bill before making a comprehensive statement on the issue.

Ms Chisanga says there is need for the tribunal to perform the functions for which it was created.
Ms Chisanga says changing the name will not matter for as long as the tribunal is not doing what it is suppose to do.

Ms Chisanga says Action Aid looks forward to seeing what other things are being done to strengthen the tribunal other than changing its name.

Cabinet has approved a bill to rename the revenue appeals tribunal as the tax appeals tribunal.
Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili points out that the purpose of the change is to ensure that the name accurately describes the functions of the tribunal.
