Police raid HH’s homes

Police this morning raided United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema’s houses in Kabulonga and New Kasama.

The Police search operation was also conducted at the UPND Secretariat in Rhodespark area.

The Police operation follows the directive President Edgar Lungu gave the Police to investigate claims by Mr Hichilema that he gets a copy of State security information from the intelligence.HH2

And Mr Hichilema has described the raiding of his house by the Police as ill-timed.

Mr. Hichilema has told QFM News in a telephone interview that this brutal way of doing things by the Police should come to an end.

He says time for such actions is long gone and that it is time Zambians including the Police embraced peace and harmony.

Mr Hichilema says President Edgar Lungu should be questioned if he is promoting human rights in the country going by the directive he gave to the Police yesterday.

Meanwhile, Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza says the directive by President Lungu to the Police to investigate Mr. Hichilema will dent the good image he has so far built for himself and defeat his message on the need for tolerance.

Mr. Mwanza has told QFM News that the speed at which the Police are moving to investigate Mr. Hichilema is sending a wrong signal about the reign of President Lungu.

He notes that President Lungu has been trying to rebuild the country’s human rights image which was dented and that it would be wrong for him to direct the Police to investigate and arrest citizens who issue political statements.
