Tayali counsels political parties on violence

The Zambian Voice has observed that political violence in the country will continue to escalate if leaders do not take an effective approach against the vice.

The organization has since called upon political party leaders to show unequivocal antipathy towards violence.

Executive Director Chilufya Tayali says violence will not stop if leaders continue to pay lip service and finger pointing.

Mr. Chilufya has told a media bTayali Criefing in Lusaka this morning that much as his organization appreciates President Edgar Lungu’s stance on violence, it is of the view that President Lungu should do more than just talk.

He says the Zambian Voice wants to see a situation where cadres that involve themselves in violent acts are disciplined within party structures other than just leaving it to the Police.

Mr Tayali has particularly urged opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema to walk the talk by helping the Police with investigations into the violent incident in which he was recently attacked by UPND cadres at Cresta Golfview hotel.

He says the Zambia Police should also walk the talk in this matter owing to the fact that the Cresta Golfview incident happened in broad day light.
