Digital Migration progressing well – IBA

The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) says preparations for the country to migrate from analogue to digital broadcasting are progressing well.

IBA standards and consumer affairs Manager Leah Kabamba has told Qfm news that the IBA is working around the clock to ensure that all stakeholders are mindful of the June 2015 digital migration deadline.

Ms. Kabamba says the IBA has also lined up a number of activities aimed at sensitizing the public on the digital migration June deadline.

She states that there is need for the media to continue highlighting the importance of digital migration so that more people can understand what it is all about, noting that the media is key to educating the masses.

Ms. Kabamba adds that it is important for the nation to be proud of the migration from Analogue to Digital television broadcasting.

She states that the change will be in conformity with the provisions of the Geneva 2006 (GE06) Digital TV Broadcasting plan.

Ms .Kabamba further adds that the change is mainly meant to address the rising demand for Terrestrial Television Broadcasting. With digital transmission, up to eight Television programmes can be transmitted on a spectrum or frequency space of a single Analogue programme.
