ACC nab ZRA officer for corruption

The Anti- Corruption Commission has arrested a Customs Officer at the Zambia Revenue Authority in Lusaka for corrupt practices involving K 40, 000.

ACC Public Relations Manager Timothy Moono says Gilbert Keembe Mainza, 45, of 7758 Woodlands Extension, former OP Flats in Lusaka has been charged with two Counts of Corrupt Practices by Public Officer contrary to Section 19 as read with Section 41 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

In the first count, details of the offence are that Mainza, being a public Officer namely a Customs Officer at the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Lusaka Port Office, on unknown dates but between 1st February 2015 and 18th February 2015 in LusakMoono ACCa, jointly and whilst acting together with other unknown persons corruptly solicited a sum of K40, 000 and actually received K6, 000 cash gratification from a certain Peter Hatuma through his nephew Ndima Kalituta as a reward or inducement for Mainza to facilitate the clearance of Timber for Silbrand Trading and Assante and Associates, a matter concerning the Zambia Revenue Authority a public body.

In the second Count, details are that Mainza, being a public Officer namely a Customs Officer at the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Lusaka Port Office, on unknown dates but between 1st February 2015 and 18th February 2015 in Lusaka, jointly and whilst acting together with other unknown persons corruptly solicited a sum of K40, 000 and actually received K10, 000 cash gratification from a certain Peter Hatuma as a reward or inducement for Mainza to facilitate the clearance of Timber for Silbrand Trading and Assante and Associates, a matter concerning the Zambia Revenue Authority a public body.

Mainza has since been released on bond and will appear in Court soon.
