CSPR hails govt for intending to procure choppers for DMMU

Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has hailed government’s intentions to procure five helicopters to help in the delivery of relief food in far flung areas in the country.

CSPR acting Executive Director Makani Mzyece has told Qfm news that it is unfortunate that for some time most Zambians have not been able to have access to relief food because of the poor road network in their communities.

Mr. Mzyce says the move by government is a step in the right direction because it will help ease the delivery of relief food especially in flood prone areas.

He explains that it is also clear that the disaster management and mitigation unit (DMMU) has been having   challenges in terms of reaching out to people in disasters hit areas because many areas can only be assessed by air transport which has been limited.

Mr. Mzyece states that government’s plan is therefore coming at the right time when the majority of the people have not been able to get their farming inputs on time coupled the delayed commencement of the rainy season which may affect the food production in some areas.
