The Zambia Police has been called upon to show professionalism in its work by being proactive in taking action on complaints made by members of the public.

Operation Young Vote (OYV) Executive Director Guess Nyirenda says the slow pace at which the Police respond to complaints and grievances logged by opposition political parties is unacceptable.

Mr Nyirenda says OYV finds it particularly worrying the current situation where political parties such as the United Party for National Development (UPND) have reached the extent of writing to the Police owing to the slow pace at which Police act on complaints.

Mr. Nyirenda has told Qfm News by telephone that his organization is of the view that in a democratic country such as Zambia, law enforcement agencies such as the Police are supposed to take up an uncompromised stance in dealing with complaints made by members of the public.

He says the people of Zambia want to see a situation where the Police begin to quickly respond and act upon complaints within the shortest time possible of the complaints being lodged.

Mr. Nyirenda has also called upon President Edgar Lungu to play a role in restoring competence to the Zambia Police by revoking appointments of senior Police officers failing to perform to expectation of the people.

He says being the appointing authority President Lungu has a duty to disappoint any non performing Police senior officer.
