Govt technocrats, Chambers of mines to negotiate over new fiscal regime

Mines energy and water development minister Christopher Yaluma says technocrats have been given the mandate to dialogue with the Chamber of Mines of Zambia over the new fiscal regime.

Mr. Yaluma has emphasized that government will not submit to a raw deal because it has an agenda to improve the living standards of the people of the people of Zambia thus whatever the discussions would should be, they should be in the interest of the people of Zambia.

Mr. Yaluma insists that the new fiscal regime is not aimed at disadvantaging the mining industry but to enhance transparency and increase revenue collection which in turn would contribute to the country’s economic growth.

He adds that government is committed to ensuring that the people of Zambia get a fair share of the country’s resources so that they appreciate being Zambians.

Mr. Yaluma further states that government will also continue to create an enabling environment in the mining and energy sectors for the economic growth of the nation.
