Fourth Revolution party (4R) President Erick Chanda has appealed government to ensure the new mining tax regime benefits the Zambian people especially those in places where the mines are operating.
Mr. Chanda has told Qfm news in an interview that he expects Mines Minister Christopher Yaluma to look into what has been holding the mines not to give back to the local people and the nation at large.
He says there is need for all foreign mining companies operating in Zambia to begin give shape to the country’s economy by giving jobs to the local people who are qualified to do certain jobs.
Mr Chanda notes that Zambia is endowed with natural resources the reason why many investors are still coming to the country, but that it is the responsibility of the minister responsible for mines to see to it that Zambians benefit equally.
Mr. Chanda has also urged Mr. Yaluma to work towards safeguarding the investment in the mining industry.
