DEC arrests 3 Lusaka Heroin traffickers

The Drug Enforcement Commission has arrested and jointly charged three (03) Lusaka residents for trafficking in Heroin.

Commission Assistant Public Relations officer Chibu Tembo says Charles Kanchele,31, a Butcher of Kalingalinga Compound has been arrested and jointly charged with Yohanne Banda,20, a Shop Keeper of Mtendere Township and Jeoffrey Michelo,20, of Mtendere East for trafficking in 20 sachets of Heroin weighing 1.428g.

Mrs Tembo says the trio have also charged for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 200.8g.

In a Separate incidence, the Commission on the Copperbelt has arrested a British national for trafficking in loose cannabis.

Mrs Tembo says Maryjane Wallington Gibbons, 41,a Housewife of 28 Chintu road in Kansenshi, Ndola has been arrested for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 5.2g.

Meanwhile, the Commission in the last three (03) days has arrested over 30 Peasant farmers country wide for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.

Those arrested include Casto Nyasalandi, 52, a Peasant farmer of Kaseki area in Mwinilunga District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 1.2 tonnes, Boyd Chilengi, 37, of Katondo Village in Lukulu District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 720kg and Philip Tapula, 33, of Zangamenu area in Solwezi District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 6.3kg.

Others arrested and jointly charged are Lunda Mutombo, 45, a Peasant farmer of Mwenda Nakasapato area in Kaputa District and his wife, Febbie Kaoma, 49, for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 38.1kg. The couple was also charged for trafficking in 10kg of compressed cannabis and 2.1kg of cannabis seeds.
