Police stops MMD faction NEC meeting from taking place

The Zambia Police this morning dispersed opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) members who wanted to convene a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Lusaka’s Kabulonga area.

The MMD faction led by former MMD National Secretary Muhabi Lungu arrived at Kabulonga’s Mika hotel as early as 10:00 hours but was only greeted by a heavy presence of police in the hotel promises.

It is this action by the Police that prompted management of the Hotel to ask the MMD faction to leave the Hotel premises until it has been granted a police permit to go ahead with its scheduled meeting.

The MMD faction however made an attempt to get back in the hotel premises but such efforts proved futile.

By broadcast time Mr. Lungu and his team were reported to have been seeking an alternative place to hold their NEC meeting which is believed to announce some resolutions that have been made by the faction.
