ECZ sets April 14 as date for Masaiti by-election

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set Tuesday the 14th of April, 2015 as the date on which to hold the Parliamentary by-election in Masaiti Constituency.

The Parliamentary by-election in Masaiti will be held on the same date with the Chawama Constituency by-election and 8 other Local Government wards which were earlier announced.

Apart from the 8 local government by elections which were announced earlier the Commission will conduct by-elections in an additional 8 wards to bring the total number of Local government by -elections to sixteen.

The vacancy in Masaiti occurred following the nullification of the election of Michael Katambo by the High Court and the upholding of the ruling by the Supreme Court while vacancies in the Local Government wards have arisen following deaths and resignations of Councillors.

Aspiring candidates in the by-elections are required to lodge completed and attested statutory declaration and nomination papers subscribed before a Magistrate, Local Court Magistrate, Head of a Government Primary or Secondary School, Principal of a College, Commissioner of Oaths, Election Officer or Returning Officer on Tuesday the 10th of March 2015 between 09:00 hours and 15:00 hours.

Media personnel and Registered Non-Governmental Organizations wishing to monitor/observe the elections are on the other hand advised to apply for accreditation from the Commission from Sunday the 1st of March to Friday the 10th of April, 2015.

Accreditation for political party officials wishing to monitor elections in the Constituencies shall only be up to a maximum of 10 members per political party.
