Chinese mines ready to dialogue over new mining tax regime

Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Yang Youming says the Chinese mining companies operating in Zambia are ready to dialogue with government over the new mining tax regime.

Ambassador Youming says his government has already engaged the Chinese mining companies to see how best they can work with the Zambian government with regards to the newly introduced tax regime.

He has however stated that it is not up to the Chinese mining companies to give options to Zambian government on how they want to be taxed, but that it is the responsibility of Zambian government through the ministry of mines and other relevant authorities to give guidance on the matter.

Ambassador Youming explains that it is in this regard that all Chinese mining companies will respect the final decision of the Zambian government with regards the mining tax regime.

The Chinese envoy to Zambia has also commended government for the steps taken so far to engage other mining companies operating in the country on the new mining tax.
