Construction sector has continued to grow – NCC

Road constructionThe National Council for Construction (NCC) says the construction sector has continued to grow at a steady rate of 17.5percent annually.

NCC acting Executive Director Francis Mwape says the construction sector has also continued to record an increase in the number of registered contractors and those going through the construction school for capacity building sessions as indication that there is demand in the nation for construction related goods and services.

Mr. Mwape points out that NCC recognizes that one of the key sectors in developing the country’s economy is the construction sector.

He notes that construction activities though beneficial to the country, if not handled in a coordinated manner can contribute to damaging the integrity of the environment and compromising the needs of the future generation.

Mr. Mwape says it is in this regard that the NCC is commencing a process of producing its first construction sector outlook report which will provide key information on the state of construction sector, identify some of the key drivers and pressures currently being experienced and provide an outlook of what the future of the sector looks like if it has to continue thriving.

He said this during a stakeholder consultative meeting for the construction sector outlook report this morning.
