PROTUZ reminds President Lungu about lifting wage freeze

The Profession Teachers Union of Zambia (PROTUZ) has reminded President Edgar Lungu that before elected Republican President he promised to lift the employment and wage freeze.

PROTUZ General Secretary Albert Muyembe has told QFM News in an interview that the union trusts that President Lungu will honor his promise and look into the matter.

Mr. Muyembe has disclosed that the union had earlier registered its displeasure over the wage freeze and the President assured them that he will look into it if elected republican president.

And Mr. Muyembe has observed that Zambia is unlikely to meet the Millennium Development Goals on education this year this is because of the challenges the education sector is grappling with.

He says teachers are moving from rural areas in search of greener pastures in urban areas leaving children in rural areas without teachers.

He adds that this situation is becoming a source of concern to the teachers union considering that the teacher pupil ration in rural areas is tempered with.
