inmatesThe Prisons Care and Counseling Association (PRISCCA) has appealed to government and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that prisoners are accorded an opportunity to vote during the 2016 General Elections.

PRISCCA Executive Director Godfrey Malembeka has told QFM News in an interview that inmates are being denied of their right to choose leaders of their own choice.

Mr. Malembeka has called on government and relevant stakeholders to consider formulating policies that will allow prisoners to take part in elections.

He notes that giving prisoners an opportunity to cast their vote will be a step in the right direction as they will feel not left out in electing leaders.

Mr. Malembeka says his organization had earlier submitted its legal and human right concerns of having the legal justice reform sector after determining that inmates should be accorded a chance to vote.

He hopes the justice sector reforms will be swift in responding to this particular submission adding that it is cardinal and calls for quick response.
