MMD Spokesperson Raphael Nakacinda has charged that the former ruling cannot base its entire existence on the expelled senior members of the party.
Mr Nakachinda says the officials were once low ranking party officials whose profiles have been built by the MMD over a period of time to be what they are today.
He says it is these same people who have been guilty of tearing the party apart, handing part of it to the United Party for National Development (UPND) and the other to the Patriotic Front (PF).
Mr. Nakacinda notes that much smaller parties performed better than the MMD because their members rallied around and supported their candidates.
He states that this unfortunately was not the case with the MMD which experienced an unprecedented scenario of facing the election with the party split into 3 factions, one led by former President Rupiah Banda (RB) with Eastern Province MPs and NEC members which endorse PF’s Edgar Lungu and the other led by Lunte Member of Parliament Felix Mutati faction with MPs largely from Southern, Western and North Western provinces which endorsed UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema.
Mr Nakachinda says this left Dr Nevers Mumba with a few loyal members to fight for the survival of the MMD.
He states that the MMD is now in the process of dealing with its ‘internal devils’ and the first line to be dealt with are those charged with the greatest responsibilities in the party, the leaders who formulate the policies and rules by which the party is governed, who turned out to be the source of the biggest disappointment and should therefore suffer the greatest penalties.
He said even if MMD had millions of members, as long as it had indisciplined members, the party would not go anywhere.
Mr Nakachinda further explained that the MMD is pushing the Morality and Integrity agenda in politics and the immoral behavior such as exhibited by the party Chairman must be dealt with decisively and rooted out of the MMD if it is to survive.
