PROTUZ appeals to Lungu to address accommodation challenges facing teachers

The Profession Teachers Union of Zambia (PROTUZ) has appealed to President Edgar Lungu to look into accommodation challenges teachers are facing more especially in rural areas.

PROTUZ Deputy Secretary General Charity Kampamba has told QFM News in an interview that teachers suffer a lot in rural areas saying there is limited accommodation.

Ms Kampamba notes that government is building more schools and building less teachers’ houses making it difficult for them to be accommodated within the school premises.

Ms Kampamba says teachers are forced to rent for houses outside the school premises which is making them uncomfortable.

She says government should consider building more teachers’ houses within school premises adding that even teachers from urban areas can go to teach in rural areas.
