Administration of POA by police has improved – OYV

The Operation Young Vote (OYV) has observed that the administration of the Public Order Act by the police has tremendously improved as witnessed during last month’s presidential by-election.

OYV Executive Director Guess Nyirenda says his organization is happy that political parties were not constrained or restricted in the campaigns by the fact that there was no abuse of the Public Order Act.

Mr. Nyirenda has however noted the continued poor police response against violence perpetrated by supporters of the ruling party.

He notes that in some instances despite the police given the full details, they were taking too much time to respond to violence.

He says the police should improve in this area during next year’s general elections.
