The Zambia Council for Social Development (ZCSD) says it is keenly observing the exercise of the presidential powers in the appointment of ministers and other government officials.

ZCSD Executive Secretary Lewis Mwape says the President has the responsibility to ensure that the appointments are not based on appeasement.

Mr Mwape says the civil service must not be a mirror image of the Patriotic Front by appointing the party structures into government.

Mr. Mwape says Foreign Service appointees must be credible enough and serve the interest of the Zambian people beyond the oaths of patriotism and secrecy.

He says President Lungu has an opportunity to break the culture of nepotism and tribalism that has slayed the spirit of one Zambia one Nation.

Mr. Mwape has urged President Lungu to take measures of reducing expenditure on the huge Cabinet and spend the resources on other important areas of development and the poverty reduction agenda.

He further states that ZCSD has great hope that the country will be united again and has thus called on all citizens to support the President and the government stressing that the time for elections is over and it is time to work.
