The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is expecting President Edgar Lungu to give a clear direction to the constitution reform process in his address to parliament later this year.

And YALI also wants to see how President Lungu’s administration intends to tackle the widening gap between the rich and the poor.

YALI Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza says there is need for the PF Government to table critical bills such as the long awaited Freedom of Information Bill, the legal framework on the Constitution and a focus to discussion on the Public Order Act.

Mr. Mwanza has told QFM News in an interview that when these bills are tabled before Parliament, Members of Parliament should put partisan interests aside and support what is best for Zambia.

He reiterates that an agreement must be reached to amend the Constitution now so that progressive clauses can be introduced in the Constitution even as the country prepares to adequately conduct a successful Referendum on the Bill of Rights next year or thereabouts.

And Mr. Mwanza has called on the opposition political parties to put their loss in the last Presidential election behind them and begin to provide effective checks and balances to the current PF administration led by President Lungu.

He notes that President Lungu promised Zambians a number of things during the run up to the last elections and the opposition can do well to begin to engage him to see which direction he is taking towards reducing things like Mealie and fuel prices.
