Appointment of women cheers ZCSD

The Zambia Council for Social Development (ZCSD) has charged that the appointment of women into senior government positions will contribute immensely to policy the balance of gender that for a long time have not benefitted the women folk.

ZCSD Executive Secretary Lewis Mwape says as an organization, they believe that the President’s appointments are not mere gestures of political appeasement but that they are being done on merit and in the true spirit of recognizing that women play a critical role in public office.

Mr. Mwape however notes that the challenge now is up to the women themselves to prove that they are able to effectively contribute to national development much as the men can do.

He says it would be very disappointing if the women that have been appointed fail to deliver thus it is important that they put in their best and ensure that they deliver according the expectations of the people of Zambia who have given them the support that they need.

Mr. Mwape has further encouraged the President to appoint more women, youths and the physically challenged citizens in his administration in order to attain adequate representation in decision making processes of these groups.
