years.

discussions with the mining industry which are bearing fruit.

Mr Chikwanda later visited the copper smelter at Nchanga mine.

And speaking earlier, KCM Chief Executive officer Steven Din says the mine is facing great challenges and is operating in a very difficult business environment.

Mr.Din however says KCM is pleased that the challenges are being addressed the in a spirit of mutual benefit.

He explains that the mining company strongly shares the government’s aspirations to enhance the development of the mining industry, the Zambian economy and importantly its anti-poverty agenda.

Mr.Din adds that KCM is also ready to examine all options available to ensure that the future of the mine is safeguarded.

He further states that KCM has spent over $150 million in the last ten years supporting the health and education sectors, sustainable livelihood programmes and environmental programmes which have created alternative income generating activities and reduced incidences of poverty in its areas of operation.
