PAZA expects more from President Lungu

The Press Association of Zambia (PAZA) says the media in the country have a lot of expectations from the Administration of President Edgar Lungu.

PAZA Executive Secretary Patson Phiri says the media are expecting that government under President Lungu will materialize the access to information bill which has stalled for a long time.

Mr. Phiri says the media fraternity expects government to urgently look at the plight of the workers of both the public and private media, calling on President Lungu to intervene in what is happening at the Times of Zambia were workers are going for months without being paid.

He adds that the media fraternity further expects that the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) will be given more power to regulate state owned electronic media, stating that the IBA cannot only be looking at breaches in the private electronic media.

Mr. Phiri has urged President Lungu to ensure that the media in the country operate independently without fear or intimidation from anyone.

He further states that it is the hope of PAZA that both the private and public media will be allowed to cover state functions.
