FODEP counsels PF, MMD

The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has recommended to the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) and the former ruling party Movement for Multiparty and Democracy (MMD) to explicitly review their intra party rules of selecting presidential candidates.

FODEP President Shepherd Chilombe says what happened in the two ruling political parties in selecting their presidential candidates in the recent held presidential by elections was of concern to every Zambian.

Mr. Chilombe says the two political parties should review its ways of selecting the leaders citing that the rules should be clear enough for all the party members to understand and even the people outside their parties to understand.

He says such things should not happen again has it may have a negative impact on the parties involved which would not be good.

Mr. Chilombe notes that political parties should familiarize themselves with their party constitutions and always refer to them if need arises adding that failure to understand their constitutions causing confusions within the party.

He further states that he is hopeful that political parties will review their selections processes so that they do not find themselves in situations as they did in the last election.
