ZCTU calls for urgent reconsideration of wage freeze

ZCTU PRESIDENT Chishimba-NkoleZambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has called for urgent reconsideration of the wage freeze imposed on public service workers.

ZCTU President Nkole Chishimba says the wage freeze still remains illegal and a threat to harmonious industrial relations.

Mr. Chishimba says ZCTU is in this regard requesting government to encourage social dialogue in order to create an atmosphere of mutual trust among tripartite partners.

He states that President Edgar Lungu should always remember that workers have continued to endure difficult working conditions largely as a result of weak labour laws.

And Mr Chishimba says ZCTU stands ready to raise awareness on the need to recognize the rights of people with disabilities in employment.

He says in this regard the trade union recognizes its role to promote equal opportunities and equal treatment for disabled workers.

Mr Chishimba said this during the official opening of two day training workshop on disability inclusion in trade unions organized by the International Labour organization (ILO).

And speaking at the same function, ILO Central Technical Assistance Pia Korpinen says the issue of the rights of workers with disabilities needs to become priority.

She says trade unions need to move the issue of the rights of workers with disabilities to the front on their agenda.
