Lungu maintains lead

Patriotic Front President Edgar Lungu is still leading but opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) Leader Hakainde Hichilema appears to be narrowing the gap.

Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chairperson Ireen Mambilima has announced that Mr. Lungu has 670, 397 votes against 641, 343 for Mr. Hichilema after results from 111 of the 150 constituencies representing 48.87% and 46.75% respectively.

Justice Mambilima says the commission has received and verified results from twenty one constituencies to add to the 90 constituencies that the commission announced yesterday where Mr. Lungu polled 590, 252 while his closest rival Hakainde Hichilema of UPND had 524, 976 votes.

Justice Mambilima adds that those added to the 90 constituencies are from Central Province Mkushi North and Ithezhi Thezi, Copperbelt are Kwacha, Lufwanyama and Luanshya, Eastern Province are Chasefu, Lundazi and Sinda, Luapula province is Mwansabombwe, Muchinga is Nakonde, Northern province are from Senga Hill, Lubasenshi and Mporokoso.

She furthermore adds that other constituencies are from North Western, Kabompo East and Mwinilunga, Southern Province Dundumwezi, Kalomo Central and Gwembe, Western Province Mwandi, Liuwa and Luampa.

in the latest results announced, FDD Leader Edith Nawakwi is in the third position with 11,260 votes, followed by MMD’s Nevers Mumba who has 10,242 votes while UNIP candidate Tilyenji Kaunda has 7, 329 votes.

Fourth Revolution President Erick Chanda has 5, 514 votes, NAREP Leader Elias Chipimo Junior has 4, 735 votes, Godfrey Miyanda of Heritage Party has 4, 344 votes with CDP President Danile Pule in the ninth position with 2, 427 votes.

Others are Ludwig Sondashi of FDA who has polled 1, 445 votes and on the bottom is Peter Sinkamba of Green Party with 1, 105 votes.

The UPND Leader has closed the gap from the 65, 276 votes he was trailing against the PF president yesterday out of the 90 constituencies to 29, 054 votes from the 111 constituencies announced by the commission Last night.
