Zambia’s Presidential election peaceful – SADC Observation Mission

The SADC Electoral Observation Mission has described Zambia’s 2015 Presidential election as peaceful, transparent, credible, free, and fair, thus reflecting the will of the people of Zambia.

Giving a preliminary statement on the conduct of the elections today, Head of the SADC Electoral Observation Mission Maite Nkoana-Mashabene says the election conformed to National Laws and the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections.

Ms Nkoana-Mashanene says the SADC Election Observation Mission appeals to all candidates and their political parties, and other stakeholders, to respect the will of the people and to uphold the laws of the Republic of Zambia by accepting the outcome of the election as and when announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

She says any challenge to the election results should be done in accordance with the laws of the country.

Ms Nkoana-Mashabene says Zambia is known to be a peaceful country and that the SADC mission appeals to all political parties to behave in a manner that promotes peace, security and stability of the country and her citizens.

She says the SADC election observation mission also congratulates the Electoral Commission of Zambia which was able, at short notice, to professionally organise, conduct and deliver a credible election.

She has further congratulated the people of Zambia for the manner in which they conducted themselves during the electoral process.
