Lungu still in lead

Latest results from the presidential election released by the Electoral Commission of Zambia this afternoon still have Patriotic Front President Edgar Lungu in the lead with 590,252 votes representing 50.76% closely followed by UPND President Hakainde Hichilema with 524,976 votes representing 45.14% .

ECZ Chairperson Justice Irene Mambilima has told a media briefing that the results representing 90 constituencies have MMD’s Nevers Mumba with 8,831 votes representing 0.76%,FDD’s Edith Nawakwi with 8,806 votes representing 0.76%,UNIP’s Tilyenji Kaunda with 5,717 votes representing 0.49%,Fourth Revolution’s Eric Chanda has 4,029 representing 0.35%, with NAREP’s Elias Chipimo Jr with 3,812 votes representing 0.33%.

Heritage party’s Godfrey Miyanda has 3,445 representing 0.30%,CDP’s Daniel Pule has 1,962 representing 0.17%,FDA’s Ludwig Sondashi has 1,118 representing 0.10% while Green party’s Peter Sinkamba has 889 representing 0.08%.

Meanwhile ECZ Director Priscilla Isaacs has expressed disappointed with the continued manner in which some political cadres continue to interfere with the work of the commission.

Ms Isaacs says just this afternoon she got a report that ECZ members of staff were being harassed by UPND cadres on the pretext that five European men where in the ECZ building who were working on the ECZ system, describing this claim as utter rubbish.
