Political parties encouraged to sustain calmness

Political parties that participated in yesterday’s presidential election have been encouraged to sustain the calmness and peacefulness they exhibited on polling day.

The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) is particularly pleased that no serious reports of political violence were recorded on the polling day.

Executive Director Boniface Cheembe has told Qfm News by telephone that his organization hopes that this peace and orderliness will be sustained until the final count of votes and eventual announcement of the election results.

Mr. Cheembe states that this is in order that Zambia continues being a beacon of peace and a country that respects the rule of law.

And Mr. Cheembe says SACCORD is also pleased that all political parties that participated in the election complied with the electoral rule by ending all campaigns within the stipulated timeframe of 18:00hrs on the eve of the election.

He notes that such observance of the electoral rule is encouraging and shows that the country has political parties that mean well when it comes to abiding by the country’s electoral law.

Mr. Cheembe says in this respect his organization commends all 11 political parties that contested the election.
