Lungu, HH pledge to accept outcome of presidential election

Some presidential candidates in today’s presidential election have pledged to accept the outcome of the poll provided it is conducted in a free and fair manner.

Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Edgar Lungu has maintained that he will accept the election results whether he wins or loses provided the election is conducted according to the guidelines and rules of the electoral law.

Mr. Lungu says if the manner in which the electoral process has been conducted leaves room for doubt for sincerity of the process, he will be taken back on his word.

Speaking this morning after voting for himself at Andrew Mwenya polling station in John Howard in Chawama constituency where he is also Member of Parliament, Mr. Lungu told both local and foreign journalists that so far he is happy with the manner in which the election has been conducted.

He states that the support he has received in the run –up to the election speaks for itself that he is headed for victory.

And the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema who too voted for himself at Lusaka’s Kabulonga Boys Secondary school polling station this morning has maintained his confidence of winning the presidential election.

Mr. Hichilema says he is the only presidential candidate who has been able to conduct a massive campaign.

He has told both local and foreign journalists that as far as he is concerned the question of whether he will win the election or not does not arise because he is certain that he will win the election.
